Applications are invited for admission to M.E. Degree (Evening)
Programme, offered in Anna University Tiruchirappalli (Main Campus) for the
year 2010-2011.
The Application Forms can be downloaded from http://www.tau.edu.in from
15.04.2010 onwards. The downloaded and completed applications along with a
Demand Draft [Rs.600/- for General category or Rs.300/- for SC / ST
candidates (a copy of Community Certificate should be enclosed) ] drawn in
favor of “The Director (Admissions)”, Anna University Tiruchirappalli,
Tiruchirappalli -620 024, payable at Tiruchirappalli should be sent to the

1. PROGRAMME OF STUDY
M.E. – (GATE / Non-GATE)
The following PG Degree programmes are offered at Anna University Tiruchirappalli
• M.E. Structural Engineering
• M.E. Thermal Engineering
• M.E. Manufacturing Engineering
• M.E. CAD / CAM
• M.E. Power Systems Engineering
2. ELIGIBILITY
The Candidates seeking admission to any of the above mentioned programmes should refer
Table – II of item number 8 of this ‘Information and Instruction to candidates’ booklet for
eligibility conditions. Candidates appearing for final year/end semester examination of the
qualifying degree course in April / May 2010 may al so apply and the candidates must have valid
GATE score (or) must appear for Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test, 2010 (TANCET-2010).
3. ADMISSION INFORMATION
3.1. General
• Candidates must fill the application form carefully.
• Candidates other than GATE Category must have appeared for TANCET-2010.
• Candidates must have obtained their Bachelor’s Degree / appeared / appearing for the
final year / end semester Examination of the qualifying degree from a University /
Professional Body approved / recognised by UGC/AICTE. Candidates with AIIA and other
equivalent qualification (as recognized by UGC / AICTE and this University) can also apply.
• Seats of P.G. Programmes are filled as per the reservation norms prescribed by the
Government of Tamil Nadu. B.C., BCM, M.B.C / DNC, SC, SCA & ST. Categories are
applicable to Tamil Nadu candidates only.
• Other State candidates (except SC / ST) will be classified under
“OTHERS” category as applicable
• If a GATE candidate desires to be considered against the Non-GATE category then
he/she must compulsorily appear for TANCET-2010.
• No stipend will be provided to candidates admitted under GATE.
• The candidate should produce Degree certificate / Consolidated Mark sheet / Provisional
Certificate on or before 31.08.2010 without fail.
• The admissions to this programme will be made by, “The Director
(Admissions), Anna University Tiruchirappalli”, Tiruchirappalli – 620 024.
• Hostel accommodation will not be provided.
3.2. Admission is based on GATE / TANCET score and as per Government Norms
3.3. FILING APPLICATIONS – (GATE / Non-GATE)
GATE Category: Candidates who have a valid GATE percentile score in the appropriate
discipline belong to this category.
Non-GATE Category:
All the candidates who are appearing for the TANCET-2010 conducted by the Anna
University, Chennai are eligible under this category.
3.4. Enclosures
Attested photocopies of the following are to be enclosed (Originals should not be
enclosed):
i) Degree certificate (or) provisional certificate in the case of candidates who have passed
in 2009 (or) earlier. Candidates appearing for final semester/year examination of the
qualifying degree in April/May 2010 have to enclose a bonafide certificate from the Head of
the Institution where the candidate is studying stating clearly that the candidate is a final year
student and that he/she is appearing for final semester examination as well as arrear
subjects, if any in April/May 2010.
ii) Mark lists of all semesters of Qualifying Examination completed,
iii) GATE Score Card, if applicable.
iv) Permanent Community Certificate (in card format) in the case of Tamil Nadu BC,
BCM, MBC/DNC, SC, SCA&ST candidates. The applicant of Tamil Nadu State
should have a valid permanent community certificate in the card format issued by competent
authority (for ST/SCA/SC/MBC and DNC/BC cases) in the format prescribed by the
Government of Tamil Nadu in G.O.Ms.No.781 (Revenue Department) dated 2.5.88. In the
case of ST candidates, community certificate should have been issued by the Revenue
Divisional Officer/P. A. (General) to the Collector of Chennai/Sub-Collector of the District
concerned (except Chennai) vide Govt. Lr.No. 32061/ADWII/89-2, dt.27.12.89 and
Lr.No.21424/ADWII/94-4, dated 15.11.94 from the Secretary to Government, Adi
Dravidar and Tribal Welfare Department, Chennai 600 009.
For Communities linked with Districts (see Annexure I) the candidates should obtain their
Community Certificate in the respective Districts. Community Certificates obtained from other
than the respective district will not be considered.
4. SELECTION AND ADMISSION PROCEDURE
4.1 The Selection for admission / enrollment to these programmes is based on the GATE /
TANCET score obtained and following the existing reservation norms of Govt. of TamilNadu.
4.2 The Candidates will be selected and admitted through counselling only. The number of
candidates called for counselling will be in excess to the actual number of seats available. Only the
required number of candidates will only be offered admission based on the seats available and
also on the merit of the candidates who attend counselling as per reservation norms of Govt. of
Tamil Nadu . Others cannot claim any right for admission once all the seats are filled up. The
Candidates have to opt only for the programmes that are available at the time of counselling.
4.3 The GATE Candidates must appear with the GATE Original Score card
(Additional card not accepted) for counselling. The candidate without GATE Original
Score card will not be allowed for Counselling.
a) For GATE category the admission will be based on the merit list of GATE score.
b) For candidates of NON-GATE Category, the admission will be based on the
merit list of TANCET-2010 marks.
